The site
Location
The play area occupies the northwest corner of the park, bounded by the parking lot to the east and Riverside Drive to the north. Access is from a concrete path leading west from the parking lot, and from a gate in the north fence onto the Riverside Drive sidewalk.
Fencing
A 4 ft black vinyl-coated chain link fence runs along the north and east sides of the play area, with a 3 ft 6 in gate at the northeast corner. The west and south sides are open to the park lawn.
Site furniture
Two steel-framed benches with timber slats are set on the concrete apron at the east edge. A single waste receptacle stands beside the north gate. A drinking fountain is mounted on the concrete apron adjacent to the east bench.
Pathways
A 5 ft concrete path connects the parking lot to the play area and continues to the north gate. The path meets the engineered wood fiber at a flush timber edge.
Landscape features
Three mature oaks stand immediately south of the play area. Leaf litter accumulates on the surfacing beneath them in autumn.
Building fixtures
A timber shade shelter with an asphalt shingle roof stands 12 ft south of the composite structure. No other buildings adjoin the play area.
Protection from sun and ultraviolet light
The shade shelter and the three mature oaks provide shade over the south half of the play area through the afternoon. The swing bays are unshaded.
